Meghan Markle's BFF Jessica Mulroney Talks About the Negative Tabloid Culture and Her Top Style Tips

The newly named GMA contributor gets real about the negativity she's faced in the tabloid press.
  • A new profile on Meghan Markle's BFF Jessica Mulroney reveals how she's dealing with the increased media scrutiny that comes with being friends with one of the most famous women in the world.
  • She also shares her top style tips, many of which we've seen Meghan use at recent royal events.

In her first in-depth interview since her close friend Meghan Markle's royal wedding, newly named GMA contributor Jessica Mulroney is speaking out about the media scrutiny she faces, and why she won't share details about her royal BFF's life.

"Listen, every person has to have a bit of privacy in their life. There are certain things I hold very dear and secret," she tells Harper's Bazaar's Julie Kosin in a new fashion-focused profile.

"There are things I'll never talk about for sure. My life is an open book, but there's always a few secret pages in the back that nobody will be able to read."

Mulroney has been in the public eye for years as the wife of Ben Mulroney, the son of former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney. But undoubtedly, she has more eyes on her than ever thanks to her association with Meghan, one of the most recognizable women in the world at this point.

"There are so many benefits to certain things, but then also a lot of negativity that you have to deal with at the same time," Mulroney says, specifically speaking about the tabloid coverage. “You have to stay positive.”

While Mulroney is widely considered to be Meghan's "unofficial" stylist, Mulroney considers styling a "small part" of her career.

"Styling is such a small part of what I do," she tells Harper's Bazaar. "I have, like, 10 jobs. People don't know that I work so much on the back end of things. They think I'm just dressing people. My business is with brands."

That said, Bazaar piece is filled with style tips from Mulroney, some of which we've seen the Duchess of Sussex use.

For example, Mulroney sings the praises of a logo belt. She says it "can make any look more elevated and add a beautiful shape."

Meghan has worn logo belts in the past. For example, during her first solo engagement with the Queen, she accessorized her cream cape dress with a slim black logo belt by Givenchy.

She also recommends "layers and a great coat" for traveling, and the monochromatic look, another one of Meghan's signatures, to elongate your body's line.
