This rumor has been incredibly persistent.

James Hewitt has finally denied persistent, long-term rumors that he is Prince Harry's father. In an interview with Channel Seven's Sunday Night in Australia, the former Life Guards officer was asked: "Are you Harry's father?"

He replied: "No, I'm not."

The host then asked him: "Why does that keep being repeated?"

"It sells papers," said Hewitt. "It's worse for [Harry], probably, poor chap."

He told Australian television host Melissa Doye that there was "something special" about Diana, Princess of Wales. She admitted in a 1995 Panorama documentary to having an affair with him. She had separated from Prince Charles in 1992, before divorcing him four years later.

"I think she was quite easy to fall in love with, really, so I think I can be forgiven for that," said Hewitt.

He has previously described his relationship with Diana as "exciting and sexy." In 1999, he published a book about their affair. "The situation that Princess Diana and I were in made it exciting and sexy because it was risky," he has said before. "The danger spiced it up a bit if you know what I mean."
