George Clooney Says He and Amal "Have Dinners" with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The Clooneys have a home not far from the royals' Windsor abode.

The Clooneys have long been known friends of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—there really wasn't any hiding it after the couple attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding. And just over a year into their marriage, George Clooney has proven to be one of the royals' most vocal supporters.

He's spoken so much about Meghan Markle in particular that many fans even speculated that he might be named baby Archie's godfather. He shot down the rumors just after Archie's birth ("Everybody loves their rumors. It's not true," he told Extra), but acknowledged that he does have something in common with the young royal.

Clooney and Archie were both born on May 6. "It's kind of irritating, if you think about it," he joked on Extra. "'Cause I've already had to split [my birthday] with Orson Welles, Sigmund Freud, and now this [baby] comes in. I'm moving down the line very quickly."

The actor echoed that sentiment in a new interview with the Daily Mail—and then went on to explain how close he and Amal are with the royal couple. "We live not too far from one another and we have dinners and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you’re friends with anybody," Clooney said, referencing his home in Sonning, Berkshire, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Windsor. "They’re just really nice, fun, kind people, they’re a very loving couple, and they’re going to be great parents."

The one thing he won't open up about, though, is just how they all met. When the Mail asked, Clooney brushed it off with a casual, "I’ve just known them."
