Just like any regular couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recited their wedding vows and made a declaration of love during their wedding ceremony. They were joyful and even laughed at some point in the ceremony.

After the hymn, the Archbishop of Canterbury proceeded straight to The Declarations:

The Archbishop said to the Bridegroom:

Harry, will you take Meghan to be your wife? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and protect her, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?

He answered:

I will.

The Archbishop said to the Bride:

Meghan, will you take Harry to be your husband? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and protect him, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?

She answered:

I will.

The Archbishop said to the congregation:

Will you, the families and friends of Harry and Meghan, support and uphold them in their marriage now and in the years to come?

All answered:

We will.

After Princess Diana’s sister Lady Jane Fellowes read a beautiful passage on love from the Song of Solomon, the choir sang a motet, and American Reverend Michael Curry gave an address, and then the Archbishop led the vows. For this part, Meghan and Harry faced each other and held hands. Harry started the vows, saying:

I Harry, take you, Meghan, to be my wife, to have and to hold from, this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.

Then Meghan responded with:

I Meghan, take you, Harry, to be my husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.

After the vows came the exchanging of weddings rings. The rings made by Cleave and Company were carried to St. George's Chapel by Prince William as Prince Harry's Best Man.

Prince Harry placed the ring on the fourth finger of Meghan’s left hand. Then he said, “Meghan, I give you this ring as a sign of our marriage. With my body, I honor you, all that I am I give to you, and all that I have I share with you, within the love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

Meghan then did the same for her groom, and said, “Harry, I give you this ring as a sign of our marriage. With my body, I honor you, all that I am I give to you, and all that I have I share with you, within the love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

As expected, the program was very modern. Instead of 'thee' and 'thou,' the couple used 'you' and 'I' for their vows.

Taking cues from Prince William and Duchess Kate and Princess Diana and Prince Charles, Meghan and Harry left out the part of their vows where the bride promises to "love, cherish, and obey" her husband.
