The British Royal Family Tree
A couple of days ago, Meghan Markle joined the royal family. In honor of her marriage to Prince Harry, we're taking a look at the groom's family tree (click in to make the graphic larger).
Queen Elizabeth II may be the longest reigning monarch in British history, but to Prince Harry, she's just granny.
Prince Harry is particularly close with his grandfather. In fact, the reason his engagement was so short is so the Duke of Edinburgh could attend.
“One of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly—this is really whirlwind by royal standards—is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding,” royals expert Katie Nicholl said. “He's incredibly close to his grandfather and, being 96, Harry thought it was it was a great thing to [have] the wedding sooner rather than later, so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy.”
Prince Harry has a warm relationship with his father Prince of Wales, the heir apparent to the British throne. Just a few days ago, when asked how he was feeling about his son Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle, he reportedly said, “Obviously marvelous. I’m sure it will be a very special day for everybody.”
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall
While she's been in the picture for a while now, Prince Harry's stepmother Camilla, only officially joined the royal family in 2005. Take a look back at photos from her wedding to Prince Charles here.
In recent years, Prince Harry has started to speak about both his mother and his grief over losing her, more publicly. “I hope she’s looking down, you know, with tears in her eyes, being incredibly proud of what we’ve established, I suppose. I’m sure she’s longing for me to have kids so she can be a grandmother again,” he said on Good Morning America in 2016.
The groom himself!
In marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle becomes "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex."
Harry and his older brother William are reportedly quite close, and he even served as his best man. In response to receiving that honor, Prince William said, "The Duke of Cambridge is honored to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George's Chapel, Windsor on May 19th."
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge
For years, Harry was seen as sort of a third-wheel to Will and Kate, but he and his sister-in-law are quite good friends in their own right.
Little Prince George is very close to his Uncle Harry and was a pageboy at the wedding.
Princess Charlotte, too, has a great relationship with her Uncle Harry. In 2017, before the birth of Prince Louis, he shared that he didn’t mind being fifth in line for the throne because George and Charlotte were the people now ahead of him. “The reason I am now fifth is
Before Meghan Markle joined the Windsors, Prince Louis was the latest addition to the royal family. Born on April 23, the youngster is fifth in line to the throne, but unfortunately, he wasn't able to attend the wedding because he's simply too young.
