First Look: The Moment Group Takes Over Manila Polo Club's Popular Dining Spots

For members of Manila’s most exclusive sports and social club, life just got a little bit better.

Manila Polo Club members are a lucky bunch. In addition to polo, horseback riding, and other extensive sports facilities, the club serves as an oasis of calm in the heart of Makati and has become a home away from home for its members.

To complement its already popular casual Italian dining, Last Chukker, and Japanese stand-alone restaurant, Nanten, this week, The Moment Group took over the club’s food and beverage operations at its most popular dining spots: the sports lounge, sport’s café, and cogon area. TMG, as it is known in the industry, is the management group behind some of Manila’s most popular dining destinations including 8 Cuts, Manam, Ooma, Din Tai Fung, Linguini Fini,  Mecha Uma, The Mess Hall, and Bank Bar.

“The nostalgia of eating food at Polo during our childhood is powerful,” says Abba Napa, restaurateur and TMG’s founding partner. “And the opportunity to recreate that was easy for us to say yes to. It is unlike anything we have ever done before. It’s not on a street corner or in a mall. It’s an environment that houses a small group of what should be regular and frequently visiting guests. And it’s a space that calls for a multi-cuisine menu. All of those elements appeal to us and allow us to leverage off all the value we’ve built over the years creating our different restaurants, our varied menus and dishes, and the service philosophy we stand for.”

As Napa is very much aware, nostalgia is hard to beat and so Polo Club’s iconic dishes such as the Army Navy club sandwich, Pepitos, Polo cheeseburger, taquitos, and chicken a la Kiev will soon be available on a classic favorites segment of the introductory menu.

“We also hope to create food that can be nostalgic for the future generations to come. That will be the challenging but fun part. We have used our restaurants to inspire us for this Polo menu and we are loaning some of our personal favorite dishes that we ourselves would enjoy eating in the setting that is Polo. We hope that people enjoy it as much as we have over the years,” she says.

We asked Abba Napa more about what members can look forward to:

8 Cuts burgers?
Yup, the classic 8 Cuts cheeseburger will be making an appearance.

Manam Filipino favorites?
Absolutely, including the house crispy sisig and our beef and watermelon sinigang

Japanese specialties by Ooma?
A small lineup of sushi and hot plates will be found on the full menu that is coming soon.

The return of Mongolian barbecue and a proper Sunday roast?
You bet.

Bank Bar cocktails at the Cogon
Definitely, and a daily happy hour inspired by Bank Bar will start at the end of the month.

Mess Hall cookies?
Alas, no. But we will be rolling out some old favorites of yore like a parmesan soup inspired by our French bistro from once upon a time and a small line-up of pastas and made-from-scratch pizzas.

For those considering membership, this may be the time to take the plunge and make it happen, or perhaps wait until the to-die-for Mess Hall cookies make their appearance—then those millions can surely be justified.
