A playful pawikan, a mother carabao and her suckling calf, a tall, graceful giraffe, and an awkward ostrich balancing on one leg. These are some of the animals in Ann Tiukinhoy Pamintuan’s “Simplicity and Elegance” showcase that welcome visitors, young and old, to the new retail development of Ayala Land in the Pasig and Ortigas area.

“The children love the animals. They love touching them and playing with them. Then there are the adults taking selfies. There’s so much interaction. The animals have brought so much life to our Corte,” says Mariana Zobel de Ayala, general manager of Ayala Malls The 30th. She says the space is meant to welcome families from around the neighborhood, and is also “a haven and venue for artists and other creative individuals to celebrate their talent and ingenuity.”

Zobel de Ayala says she and her team highly encourage the community to drop by and take part in supporting local artists.

Pamintuan is the first Asian woman designer to be included in the International Design Yearbook. She is also one of the founding members of the Movement 8 design group.
