One of the most highly-anticipated performances of Oscars night just came and passed. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga did their duet performance of A Star Is Born's "Shallow." The song has a Best Original Song nomination and ahead of the show, was a favorite to win the category. Gaga and Cooper put on an emotional rendition of it for the crowd. They performed on stage, at the piano. The chemistry was palpable.

But it wasn't completely stress-free for them either. Weeks before the Oscars, Cooper talked about being nervous to perform the number with Gaga. Although they did it at her Las Vegas show—and went viral for it—Cooper felt the pressure of the Oscars. "I'm sure I'll be terrified," Cooper told E! News at the Director's Guild Awards at the beginning of this month. He said he had that same kind of fear before he performed the song with Gaga at her residency too. "That was terrifying," he said of the duet. "I just had to, like, zen out and just pray that I wouldn't ruin her show. Because, think about it, she just crushed it for two hours...and I thought, 'Please let me just be on pitch.'"

Cooper also explained ahead of that show that he would not be performing the song as his A Star Is Born character Jackson Maine, so what you're seeing is purely Cooper. “He’s [Jackson Maine] gone," Cooper told Stephen Colbert. "I’m not gonna try to get him back. But I will be me singing,” he said. “I hope to be present and enjoy it. And hopefully people love the song sung that night.”
