Fans of Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians trilogy will still have to wait another eight months for the film adaptation of the first book.

Those anticipating the film will be delighted to know that principal photography was completed on June 29, according to the film’s IMDB page, which means in a studio somewhere, the film is already in its post-production stages and nearly ready for audiences to see.

For those wondering if the film will stay true to its source material, both author and director Jon M. Chu are adamant about making that happen. Kwan says in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “We want to repeat what happened with The Hunger Games and Harry Potter.”

Here are a few production stills, behind-the-scenes photos of the characters on set, to serve as a testament to their promise.

Felicity Leong (Janice Koh), Jacqueline Ling (Amy Cheng), Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and Alix Cheng (Selena Tan) attend a party; Araminta Lee (Sonoya Mizuno) walks down the aisle; Nick, Rachel, and Araminta share a laugh; Peik Lin (Awkwafina) welcomes Rachel into the family mansion; Director Jon Chu with Awkwafina.

Judging by the looks of Peik Lin’s gilded mansion and Araminta’s wardrobe, we can already tell the set and costumes are spot on.

While the real Nick and Rachel would never agree to be on the cover of a magazine for privacy reasons, leads Constance Wu and Henry Golding gladly appeared on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s November issue.

We’re hoping that these photos will tide you over until the film’s release on August 17, 2018. Until then, you can always reread Rich People Problems.
