See the First Preview of The Good Place's Final Season
Before the final episodes of The Good Place's third season had even aired, NBC renewed the show for a fourth run. Below, we've rounded up what we know so far about season four of everyone's favorite philosophy show.
NBC HAS RELEASED THE FIRST PREVIEW OF THE UPCOMING SEASON.
Alongside a short clip of the season four—in which Eleanor assumes the role of the Architect, and a magical elephant reveals that Shirley Temple killed JFK—the preview features interviews with the cast.
"I'm forking furious that this is the last season of The Good Place," Jameela Jamil says. "But I also respect the creators' decision that the journey feels complete." Watch the full "first look" above.

As this upcoming season will be the show's last, it was a particularly emotional goodbye. "Today as I shoot my final scene I thank everyone involved in this beautiful experience," Jameela Jamil, who plays Tahani in the show, wrote in an Instagram caption. "It was a proper team effort and I will never forget any of this, or any of you. Signing off as Tahani officially, as I series wrap." In a second post, she shared a photo of her boyfriend comforting her as she tears up. "I BAWLED MY FUCKING EYES OUT as they called out 'that’s a series wrap on Tahani...'" she wrote.

AT COMIC-CON, THE CAST DROPPED A FEW HINTS ABOUT WHAT'S IN STORE.
Jameela Jamil promised The Good Place would "give the fans the ending they deserve." Speaking to Digital Spy, she explained, "We always manage to surprise people and go deeper into thought and idea, and I think we've definitely done this. It's a really dignified and beautiful end to this season."
For his part, Manny Jacinto (Jason) said, "For all of our characters, there is gonna be a finish line, an ending, and I am looking forward [to] all the fans to see, without spoiling anything, what their Good Place will be like."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Michael Schur offered some cryptic clues of his own. "We go to new places in season four," he said. “New things happen, we see new people. We continue the pace we set of the first three seasons of new, new, new."
NBC ANNOUNCED A RELEASE DATE EARLIER THIS SUMMER.
The Good Place's fourth season will debut on Thursday, September 26 at 9 p.m., per Variety. After that, there will be just 13 new episodes of The Good Place left.
Whereas previous seasons had 12 or 13 episodes, the show's final run will span 14—and one of those will be an hour-long season finale, Schur revealed to the Hollywood Reporter.
SHOWRUNNER MICHAEL SCHUR HAS REVEALED THE FIRST PLOT (AND CHARACTER!) DETAILS.
The Good Place has its share of guest stars (Maya Rudolph as Judge Jen, Jason Manztoukas as Derek), but this time around, there are some new, semi-permanent cast members. "This year, there are new additions to the world who are fairly permanent—at least for the initial status quo," Schur told Entertainment Weekly. "That was a new thing for us. We’d never really had characters besides the main six who we were juggling week to week, and now we have a bunch of new ones. So that’s the biggest change about this season."
Schur went on to explain that the key four—Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason—will be acting as "morality caseworkers" for the subjects of their Good Place experiment. "They’re also functioning as a team and they have big, large scale projects and big ideas for how to get all four of them to bond and change and grow," he added. "They’re there to help out and almost sheepdog style, herd them into better choices and better decisions."
And when he was asked for a one-word hint? Schur simply replied, "Vicky."
'THE GOOD PLACE' WILL COME TO AN END AFTER THIS SEASON.
In a thoughtful note, addressed to the "Residents of #TheGoodPlace Neighborhood 12358W," showrunner Michael Schur explained why the show was concluding. "After The Good Place was picked up for season two, the writing staff and I began to map out, as best we could, the trajectory of the show," it read. "Given the ideas we wanted to explore, and the pace at which we wanted to present those ideas, I began to feel like four seasons—just over 50 episodes—was the right lifespan... As such the upcoming fourth season will be our last."
So what will happen in The Good Place's final season? "We're going full tilt until the end," Schur told the Hollywood Reporter. "Everybody at the end of the day is happy that we're going to end it the way we started it—at breakneck speed, with a lot of crazy, wild twists and turns."
WHILE WE WAIT FOR THE NEW SEASON TO ROLL OUT, THERE ARE A LOT OF WAYS TO CATCH UP ON EXISTING 'THE GOOD PLACE' CONTENT.
The Good Place airs on NBC, but there are several ways to access past seasons. The first two seasons are available to stream on Netflix, and several episodes from the current run are on offer from Hulu. NBC's own online platform also has season three, with the more recent episodes open to all, and the earlier ones available to anyone with a cable login.
While The Good Place isn't free for Amazon Prime members, Prime video does give users the option to purchase previous episodes or seasons.
