The Crown Is Reportedly Casting for Princess Diana, and the Ad Says a Lot About the Role
- The Crown is looking for someone to play Princess Diana, and the role is described as "could ruffle a few feathers," according to a report.
- Princess Diana will appear in season four of the show. The third season will debut later this year.
The publication has reportedly attained a copy of the ad for the role, which calls for an actress to play the princess from ages 18-22 in the show's fourth season."We need a mesmerizing new young star with extraordinary range," it reads, per the Sun. "She has to play charming comedy, flirt and social exhibitionist on the world stage, desperate and lonely self-harmer at her lowest ebb and the kind of psychological intensity of Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby."

A source reaffirmed to the Sun that The Crown wouldn't tread lightly. "Peter [Morgan, the showrunner] is not going to hold back on how Diana impacted the Royal Family, just as he didn’t when he wrote the Queen," said the source. "It could ruffle a few feathers."
Most of the cast for the fourth season is already in place, as the core members will carry over from the third season. That includes Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth—fresh off her Oscar-winning turn as Queen Anne in The Favourite—and Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret. They're replacing Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby, both of whom endeared themselves to viewers over the first two seasons.

"I don't think any other show has recast its characters between seasons, so there is something both nerve-wracking and exhilarating too," executive producer Suzanne Mackie told the Hollywood Reporter last year.
We'll get our first taste of a refreshed The Crown later this year.
