Last fall, Starz announced a successor to its popular miniseries The White Princess. The new project will be called The Spanish Princess, and it will be limited series based on the books The Constant Princess and The King’s Curse by Philippa Gregory. Now, the first full trailer (above) offers a sneak peek of the show, and a premiere date: May 5 at 8 p.m. eastern.

Give it a watch, then keep scrolling for everything we know so far about the period drama.

THE MINISERIES WILL CENTER AROUND A TEENAGE CATHERINE OF ARAGON SHORTLY AFTER SHE ARRIVES IN ENGLAND.

"She is Princess of Wales now, but when her husband Prince Arthur dies suddenly, the throne seems lost to Catherine," reads a description of the series. "Until she claims her marriage was never consummated and that as a virgin she may set her sights on the new heir, the charismatic and headstrong Prince Harry who will one day rule as King Henry VIII."

Showrunner Matthew Graham further elaborated on the plot in a panel at the TCAs:

“From the age of 4 she had been told God is giving you the throne of England. It was not superstition or faith–it was fact,” he said, according to Deadline.

"When circumstances changed and the throne seemed to be out of her grip, she refused to believe that was God’s will. She had to fulfill the destiny god had laid out for her...As writers we went along with the notion she believed this was the right thing to do for the stability of Europe."

Of course, it's an understatement to say that Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII's relationship would be a tumultuous one, and would eventually have repercussions not only for England, but also the future of the Catholic church, but at least in the beginning, they were a “real love match,” insists Charlotte Hope, who will play the Princess.

"Starz is committed to its ongoing programming strategy to provide premium content highlighting the untold stories of strong women in history,” Carmi Zlotnik, president of programming for Starz said in a statement.

"We have a passionate fanbase who embraces female-led stories like ‘The White Queen’ and 'The White Princess' and are excited to continue with Catherine of Aragon’s story in 'The Spanish Princess.'"

EMMA FROST AND MATTHEW GRAHAM WILL SERVE AS SHOWRUNNERS AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS FOR THE PROJECT, AND THE CAST IS A REGULAR WHO'S WHO OF PERIOD DRAMAS.

Charlotte Hope, from Game of Thrones, will star as Catherine of Aragon, while Stephanie Levi-John will play her lady-in-waiting Lina de Cardonnes. Laura Carmichael a.k.a Edith from Downton Abbey will also appear in the show as Prince Arthur's guardian Margaret Pole. An animal actor named Ricky will also play the Princess's parrot.
