Art Fair Philippines’ Makati-wide event 10 Days of Art is already in full swing.
This year’s Art Fair is big on collective effort. The main event is housed at The Link, but it dispersed far and wide into public spaces and partner galleries. For 10 days, Makati hosts movies in the park, busker performances, public exhibitions, auctions, and sound feasts.
Widening the scope of the fair is a great way to bring art to the regular haunts of Makati residents, corporate executives, office employees, and students. Seen the other way around, it’s a genial way to get people closer to art.

February 10, 8 to 10:30 p.m.
Carlos Amorales’s Prelude at Bellas Artes Outpost | 2nd Floor, Building C, Karrivin Plaza, 2316 Chino Roces Avenue, Makati
Previously based in Bataan, Bellas Artes opens its new headquarters in Makati. The outpost is a non-collecting space but it is keen on bringing art to the public. It will hold a special free-for-all program every year. Four exhibitions are also slated, one of which is its inaugural show Prelude. Silverlens Gallery | Lapanday Center, Chino Roces Ave. Extension, Makati
Silverlens holds its first solo exhibitions in its new space, just two days before the opening of Art Fair. The featured artists are Ryan Villamael, known for his visionary work with paper, and Maria Taniguchi, who has produced brick paintings.

Screening of James Nares’s Street
Fountain Area of Tower One & Exchange Plaza, Ayala Triangle, Makati
This outdoor movie event marks the first time Street by James Nares will be shown in Asia. The film is a captivating mix of moving and still images captured from crowded New York streets. Expect a 20 ft x 40 ft screen at the Ayala Triangle.

No Chaos No Party Talk at Art Fair
The Link, Makati
The book No Chaos No Party celebrates the imperfections of Metro Manila, a sometimes chaotic but always inspiring hodgepodge of experience. It includes interviews with 28 artists who have drawn inspiration from their native city. At one of the educational events at Art Fair, the book’s managing editor Eva McGovern-Basa will be in conversation with Artbooks.ph founder Ringo Bunoan.

Leon Gallery, in collaboration with Asian Cultural Council, will hold an auction of rare historical pieces on February 18. For the first time, signed drawings of Jose Rizal will be on sale. Juan Luna paintings Abrochando, Scenes of Everyday Life in Japan, and La Patria En Peligro are also part of the impressive roster of works at auction.

Art Cube will a group exhibit featuring 72 artists from February 10 to March 5. Leonard Aguinaldo, Hermes Alegre, Max Balatbat, Aiya Balingit, Jeho, Bitancor, Plet Bolipata Borlongan, and Elmer Borlongan are just some of the featured artists.

Filipino-Canadian artist Lani Maestro's works will be on view at MO_Space from February 11 to March 12. She is one of two Philippine representatives to the Venice Biennale.
