For the first time in its 200-plus years, the Louvre has released a beauty collaboration—and it does not disappoint.

The museum teamed up with Officine Universelle Buly (also known as Buly 1803), a cult European brand lead by Ramdane Touhami and his wife Victoire de Taillac, to create a line of perfumes. Buly 1803 dates back to (you guessed it) 1803, but was relaunched in 2014 by Touhami and de Taillac.

The result is eight scents, each created by a different French perfumer, and inspired by an artwork in the Louvre's storied collection. "The perfumers were totally free to choose the art they wanted. There wasn’t even a budget," Touhami told the Telegraph. He added, laughing, "Actually, I said no Mona Lisa; that would have been far too obvious."

The most famous works included in the collection are Ingres's painting La Grande Odalisque, and a pair of classical statues, the Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace.

Art lovers will be able to take home their scents as perfumes, candles, scented soap sheets, and scented postcards. The products are available on Buly 1803's website, as well as in a custom-designed corner of the museum store.

De Taillac believes this retail collaboration is a part of a larger culture shift at the Parisian institution. "It’s perhaps why [the Louvre] did something with Beyoncé and the French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel," she told the Telegraph. "Its merchandising has been a bit classic, it was time to upscale."
