Lea Salonga, Steven Devine, and More: Why You Shouldn’t Miss This Year’s Toyota Classics Concert
There’s something about being in a concert hall and feeling every musical note and intake of breath as if you were playing a masterpiece yourself or witnessing the world’s greatest composers conduct their concertos from centuries ago. You can have such an experience on November 7, 2018 at Toyota Classics, where world-class musicians will perform an extensive repertoire of favorites from baroque and 21st-century composers. Below, what you can expect from the annual concert series at The Theatre at Solaire:
1. See gifted musicians come together for a cause.
In line with Toyota’s Start Your Impossible campaign, proceeds of the concert will go to the Philippine Paralympic Committee, the national sports association for physically impaired athletes.
2. Hear Lea Salonga sing your Broadway favorites live.
Witness firsthand the vocal prowess of award-winning Broadway actress and performer Lea Salonga, who will sing some of the most beloved songs from musicals such as Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, and West Side Story.
3. Experience the music of Handel, Bach, and Mozart performed the way it was intended.
Listen to classics like Vivaldi’s Four Seasons Concerto, Mozart’s 25th Symphony, and Handel’s Water Music Suite performed in the style of the baroque era by UK-based Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, one of the world’s leading period instrument orchestras. The orchestra, which performs Baroque music using the musical styles, instruments, and techniques of the period, will take you on a journey back to the era of these great composers.
4. See the prowess of international instrumental soloists.
Leading the lineup of instrumental soloists for the Philippines leg of Toyota Classics is historical keyboard specialist Steven Devine, who will accompany the orchestra on the Baroque-era harpsichord. Other soloists include soprano Charlotte Beament and violinists Daniel Edgar and Kinga Ujszászi.
