Lady Gaga is returning to the big screen. After her Academy Award-nominated performance in last year's A Star Is Born, Stefani Germanotta, better known by her stage name Lady Gaga, will star in a new film from director Ridley Scott about the murder of Guccio Gucci's grandson Maurizio Gucci.

Gucci, the grandson of the fashion house founder, was murdered in 1995 on the steps outside his office in Milan. Over the weekend, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news that Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani in the film, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was convicted of hiring a hitman to kill her former husband.

Over the course of the 1998 trial, she earned the nickname "the Black Widow" from the press, and she would eventually go on to serve 18 years of her 26-year prison sentence before being released in 2016. Here's what we know about the film so far.

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS FOR A WHILE.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Scott has been at least thinking about this film for more than a decade, and at one point Angelina Jolie was "in talks to play the role of Patrizia" though now, Gaga will step into the part.

THE SCRIPT WILL REPORTEDLY BE BASED ON SARA GAY FORDEN'S BOOK THE HOUSE OF GUCCI: A SENSATIONAL STORY OF MURDER, MADNESS, GLAMOUR, AND GREED.

According to Deadline, Roberto Bentivegna is writing the script around the stories in Forden's 2000 text.

For her part, Reggiani never confessed and still contends that she was wrongfully convicted.

"I am not guilty, but I am not innocent," she told People in 2018. "All the things that happened were a misunderstanding."

OTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE FILM ARE SLIM AT THIS POINT.

Thus far, Gaga and Scott are the only names attached to the project, and a timeline has yet to be laid out publicly. We'll continue to update this post as we know more.
