Kate McKinnon Will Play Theranos's Elizabeth Holmes in TV Series The Dropout
On the heels of the success of HBO's documentary on the ill-fated (and allegedly fraudulent) company Theranos, Hulu is getting some Elizabeth Holmes content of its own. Here's what we know about the upcoming miniseries, The Dropout.
IT WILL STAR KATE MCKINNON.
The Saturday Night Live cast member is best known for her comedic chops, but this role should give her something new and different to dig her teeth into. She'll also serve as an executive producer on the project.
Elizabeth Holmes speaks with Alan Murray at the Fortune Global Forum in 2015.
IT'S BASED ON ABC NEWS'S PODCAST OF THE SAME NAME.
"The Dropout" podcast has been ranking high in the Apple Podcast app's charts for some time. Hosted by ABC correspondent Rebecca Jarvis, the six-episode show is the result of a three-year investigation into the Theranos and Holmes.
The podcast's description gives a good idea of what to expect. "The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong," it reads. "How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as 'the next Steve Jobs' find herself facing criminal charges—to which she pleaded not guilty—and up to 20 years in jail?"
THE MINISERIES'S LENGTH IS IN FLUX.
According to Deadline, Hulu's show will run somewhere between six and 10 episodes.
THE TIMELINE FOR THE SHOW'S DEBUT HAS YET TO BE ANNOUNCED.
At the moment, it's unclear when the miniseries is expected to hit Hulu. This story will be updated as more information is released.
