Between Chinese New Year and Thanksgiving, Cinco de Mayo is one of the few international holidays that Filipinos like to take part in. Unlike those other celebrations, however, the 5th of May conjures up images of street parties, vibrant colors, and popular Mexican dishes. While the holiday was initially meant to commemorate the Mexican Army’s triumph in the 1862 Battle of Puebla against the French, the day has evolved to include various festivities celebrated across the world.

The following establishments do a fine job of honoring those festivities:

Cinco de Mayo Weekend at Hacienda

What’s the beloved Mexican holiday without an authentic feast? Mexican restaurant Hacienda educates its diners as to what Mexican food is—and it’s not just all fajitas, burritos, and tacos, as some people reduce it to. Hacienda is joining in on the celebrations by taking part in Forbes Town’s Drink o’ de Mayo with 99-peso tacos and 505-peso carafes of margaritas, as well as a Cinco de Mayo salsa dancing event that takes place on May, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Forbes Town Drink o' de Mayo

It might be a bad time to cross Forbes Town road on the evening of the 4th as half of the road will be blocked off to anticipate the arrival of Cinco de Mayo. The event, “Drink o’ de Mayo” is already telling of what one might expect but more than just the refreshments, there are promotions with partnering restaurants to look forward to. The event will also host a street party complete with mariachi band, piñatas, and latin-inspired dances from 8 p.m. to 12 m.n. Drop by Fiery Style, Hacienda, The Bowery, Bondi & Burke, L’entrecote, and more as they mark the holiday with free-flowing drinks and great food from May 2 to 9.

Cinco de Mayo lasts a weekend at the Waterside restaurant and bar at Solaire. Its Weekend Fiesta introduces a nacho and taco bar paired with margaritas as the libation of choice. Apart from a bevvy of cocktails, a 4,000-ml margarita, lauded as Manila’s largest, steals the scene. These refreshments are best enjoyed with the live entertainment that the luxury hotel has prepared.

With temperatures rising, Peninsula Manila gives its guests the chance to cool down by throwing a month-long pool party. The Mexican fiesta kicks off on May 5, with on-theme nibbles like lobster fajita quesadilla, Big Eye tuna ceviche, and Angus beef tenderloin chili con carne nachos created by the hotel’s resident Mexican-American chef Franco Diaz. While partygoers lounge by the pool, they can sip on specially concocted tequila-based cocktails or bottles of ice-cold beer. This offering will be a month-long promotion for those who want to keep the party going.
