This year marks the 40th anniversary of Bank of the Philippines’ social innovation arm, BPI Foundation, Inc. To celebrate the occasion, the foundation is staging OBRA, an art exhibit showcasing favorites from the bank's collection.

A partnership with Ayala Museum, OBRA, is BPI’s first exhibit in nearly ten years. “PAGPUGAY,” the first installation of the art series, will present artworks that display a familial theme and its significance to Filipinos from March 6 to 25 at the third floor of the museum.

During the run, various talks will be conducted by historians and other experts. A second exhibition, in June, will deal with Philippine nationalism and heritage.

“The OBRA art series is curated to showcase expressions of the Filipino experience which can speak for the bank’s integrity, loyalty, concern for community, respect, and teamwork – inherent values that enable BPI’s commitment to economic growth and nation-building,” says Ayala Museum Director Mariles Gustilo.

The bank’s extensive private art collection represents nearly all periods, styles, and genres through the works of both masters and contemporary artists such as Fernando Amorsolo, Bencab, Hernando Ocampo, Jose T. Joya, Oscar Zalameda, Jose Blanco, Malang, Manuel Baldemor, Bert Casalmer, Norma Belleza, Antonio Mahilum, Boni Arcilla, Ramon Orlina, Raymundo Valencia, and Fil Delacruz.

BPI Foundation Executive Director Maricris San Diego shares, “BPI has made its mark not only as a financial institution but also as a corporate art patron.” She continues, “OBRA is BPI Foundation’s way of expressing the social impact it has diligently fostered for the past four decades. Continuously working on cultivating hope, creating change, and shaping opportunities for its partner communities, the foundation has become like an artist who consistently works to craft a piece masterfully.”

BPI Foundation builds educational, entrepreneurial, and sustainable programs that promote financial wellness and economic empowerment. One of the foundation’s most successful projects is BPI Sinag, a program that arms and equips social entrepreneurs with the right tools to expand and contribute toward ultra-poor communities.
