Hit U.K. Show Bodyguard Is Now on Netflix and You Should Binge Watch It Immediately

Political thriller Bodyguard was the U.K.'s biggest TV hit in years—and thanks to Netflix, it's finally available stateside.

The six-part series follows war veteran-turned-policeman David Budd, played by Richard Madden (a.k.a. Game of Thrones's Robb Stark). Budd is assigned to guard high-profile politician Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes), and together, the pair navigate a political landscape rife with malfeasance.

The show tackles a lot of issues that are in the headlines these days: terrorism, surveillance, corruption. And the main characters' often-conflicting views on these subjects compel much of the drama.

Montague is working hard to expand the government's access to personal data in the name of safety, and is often accused of fomenting fear to achieve her ends. Budd, whose wartime experience has soured him on government and politics, struggles to reconcile his duty to protect Montague with his disapproval of her political agenda.

Bodyguard offers plenty of twists and turns—the plot devices expected of any hit show in the era of Peak TV. It was originally aired episodically, but with all 6-plus hours now on Netflix, you don't have to worry about waiting a whole week to resolve a cliffhanger.

Season two is still up in the air, but we should expect to see more of Madden regardless. His role in Bodyguard, in addition to his work on Game of Thrones, have rumors swirling about another action hero he might play: James Bond.

What with all the brow-furrowing, action-heroing, and meaningful-glancing he does in Bodyguard, Madden could certainly pull of a turn as the iconic secret agent.
