The Big Little Lies Season Two Finale Trailer Is Not to Be Missed
In case Big Little Lies fans weren't anxious enough for Sunday night to arrive, HBO released a trailer for the show's season two finale—and it looks as dramatic as you'd expect.
The clip begins with a voiceover from Celeste (Nicole Kidman). "The Monterey Five, whatever we call ourselves," she says, as the group of women take their seats in the courtroom. "The lie is the friendship."
In the remaining part of the 30-second clip, viewers are offered a few cryptic clues about what's to come. Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) watches as doctors rush her mother to a different part of the hospital; it looks like the Monterey Five have another late-night rendezvous by the beach. Most terrifying of all? A blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) hugging Celeste's twin boys in the courtroom.
The cast and crew have (unsurprisingly) been tight-lipped about Big Little Lies's conclusion. But when someone has spoken up, they've promised fans a good ending. "Season two was a chance for everyone involved to end [the show] in a way that feels satisfying," HBO president Casey Bloys told TVLine earlier this year.
The show's writer and creator, David E. Kelley, echoed those sentiments this past February, during an appearance at the Television Critics Association. "No such plan now," Kelley said of a possible third season, per Harper's Bazaar. "I think that it’s one and two, and we like where our closure is at the end of season two, so that will probably be it."
Viewers will find out on Sunday if Big Little Lies sticks the landing.
