Art is everywhere—simple words that can easily be turned into dreamy metaphors. In the case of Art Fair 2017, the phrase gets a more literal translation. Contemporary art will not only be housed in the main venue, The Link, but also celebrated in the form of events around Makati from February 9 to 19.
The annual event aims to give collectors, designers, professors, and students alike access to a curated selection of contemporary Philippine art. This year’s edition is packed with even more educational and recreational means to appreciate art in all its forms. Here are some of the most exciting events and activities lined up.
A Beetle car transformed into art and an interactive piece by the sound art group WSK
Within the exhibit spaces at The Link, expect art that goes beyond boundaries. A Volkswagen Beetle—a commercial object—becomes Arkiv Vilmansa's painting canvas. WSK, a collective that challenges norms in music and sound, will also have an exhibition specially commissioned for Art Fair 2017.
Modern issues also make their way in other exhibitions. Jeona Zoleta explores pop culture and millennial ideas, while Jose Tence Ruiz goes political.

Busker performances in Makati underpasses and walkways
"10 Days of Art" is a series of public exhibitions and events in support of Art Fair 2017. Live art is part of the mix, with buskers performing in Makati thoroughfares, from February 13 to 19, at 12 noon and 5 p.m.
A public screening of James Nares’ enigmatic film Street at the Ayala Triangle Gardens
The slow-motion video of New York street passersby will be projected on a big screen, 20 x 40 feet to be exact. This is the first time the one-hour film will be shown anywhere in Asia. It was previously exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The screening runs from February 14 to 19, with two screenings a day at 12 noon and 5 p.m.
