Back in July, noted cat lady Taylor Swift made headlines when it was announced that she would star alongside Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Ian McKellen in a new film based on Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical, Cats (which is itself based on T.S. Elliot's collection of poems Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats).

Many assumed that Swift would play Victoria, the all-white ballerina cat, in the Tom Hooper-directed project, especially considering that Lloyd Webber has reportedly written a new song for the part.

But this week, Lloyd Webber revealed that Swift will play either Bombalurina or Demeter, who sing the song "Macavity the Mystery Cat" in the musical.

“She’s going to play one or other of the 'Macavity' girls,” Lloyd Webber told Vulture at the annual American Theatre Wing gala, though he wasn't certain which one yet.

"Well, basically, Tom Hooper thought it was a really good idea, and of course, she loves cats,” he told the New York Magazine outpost. "We’ll see. I mean, I haven’t met her, so I’m looking forward to meeting her and seeing her [at work]."

Indeed, Swift does love cats, as Lloyd Webber mentioned. The pop star's two kitties, Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, make frequent appearances on her Instagram account.

Earlier, it was reported that Hudson will play Grizabella, the former “glamour cat,” who sings the showstopper, "Memory" in the musical. It's unclear what roles Mckellen and Corden will play.

It was also recently announced that Laurie Davidson, who played a young William Shakespeare on TNT's Will has also joined the cast in a yet-to-be-announced role. Cats will reportedly premiere next December.
