Take a Virtual Tour of New York City's Christmas Window Decorations

Even if you're not in New York City, Google takes you to see its iconic storefront displays as if you're strolling down Fifth Avenue yourself.

If there were an exact formula for getting into the Christmas spirit, it would undoubtedly involve bundling up in a soft jacket, strolling down Fifth Avenue (hot cider in hand) and gazing into arguably the most splendid and iconic holiday storefronts in the world.

Now, however, that experience isn't just limited to New Yorkers and lucky wintertime visitors. Google just released "Window Wonderland," a virtual tour of Manhattan's impeccably decorated store windows — a tradition that is nearly 150 years old. View all of the featured stores in high definition, or click to your favorites: Iconic shops include Macy's, Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Michael Kors, among many others.

The experience is ultimately a more pixel-clear and festive version of Google Earth. It emphasizes the season's enchantment as you virtually stroll around street corners and gaze into the windows, unobstructed by passersby (a rare experience for those who visit in person). If the stroll gets you in the holiday spirit, Google even helps you purchase featured gifts from the brands you see.

Even better? You get to do it all in front of a hot fire — and don't need to hail a cab home after.
