Actress Meryl Streep is joining the cast of Big Little Lies for the show's second season. She will reportedly play Alexander Skarsgård's character Perry's mother.

Per Variety, "Concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry’s death, Mary Louise arrives in Monterey searching for answers."

Executive producer Jean-Marc Vallée hinted at an addition to the cast at the Golden Globes. "There’s a new character coming. Perry's mother, that’s all I can say,” Vallée told Entertainment Tonight.

Allow us a brief moment to imagine Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, and Laura Dern doing a scene together.

In December, HBO confirmed the news that Big Little Lies would be returning for a second season. Most of the cast has signed on for the continuation of the series, including Skarsgård's character Perry, who was killed in the finale of season one.

Streep most recently appeared in Steven Spielberg's film The Post, portraying legendary Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham's fight to publish the Pentagon Papers. Earlier this week she received an Oscar nomination for the role. Here last major television role was in Angels in America in 2003, for which she won an Emmy.
