Everything You Need to Know About the New Live Action Anastasia Movie
The magical, musical, animated version of the story of escaped Romanov Princess Anastasia is getting quite the makeover with a new live-action film that reportedly began production in Lexington, KY last summer.
The latest version will feature Superman's Brandon Routh as Anastasia's father, Tsar Nicholas, and 14-year old Emily Carey of Wonder Woman as the titular character.
Emily Carey (Left) and Brandon Routh (Right) will star in the new live-action version of ’Anastasia’.
It's a big year for Anastasia. Earlier this year it was announced that she had officially become a Disney princess when Disney took over the rights to the original animated film. And this isn't the only project about the Romanovs in the works: Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner's show The Romanoff's is set to debut later this year.
The new movie about Anastasia takes something of a divergence from the animated film and notably, the real story. The movie posits that Anastasia Romanov not only survived the assassination plot that took the lives of her parents and siblings in 1918, had in fact escaped through a portal that lands her in 1988. There Anastasia befriends an American girl named Meg, played by Amiah Miller of the latest Planet of the Apes.
Thus far the scenes set in 1917 have been filmed while the 1988 scenes are reported to begin filming again this coming April.
