Katherine Schwarzenegger's Bridal Shower Guest List Included Oprah
Author (and great-niece to JFK) Katherine Schwarzenegger has been making headlines more regularly since she started seeing her fiancé, actor Chris Pratt, but her low-key, luxe bridal shower this weekend was a subtle reminder for anyone who might have forgotten that Schwarzenegger brings star power of her own.
The shower, which was held at Schwarzenegger's mother, Maria Shriver's home on Saturday was described as "very down-to-earth and intimate" by a source to People. "There were fun games and a flower station where guests could make arrangements, and a gospel choir sang several songs,” the source said.
Among the guests were friends of Schwarzenegger's, including Oprah Winfrey, and family, including her father, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Pratt also made an appearance and gave a sweet toast to his bride-to-be, but mostly stayed out of the limelight, reportedly wanting to let her be the center of attention at the party.
Here's what else we know about how their relationship has progressed over the past few months:
THEIR RED CARPET DEBUT
After a winter full of milestones—an engagement announcement, news of their cohabitation, and Pratt's plans to have "lots of kids"—the couple has finally made their long-awaited red carpet debut together to celebrate the premiere of Pratt's latest film, Avengers: Endgame.
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Avengers: Endgame in April 2019.
Though their romance has been captured in Instagrams, paparazzi photos, and public comments, they have largely kept their relationship outside of the spotlight. The movie premiere marks the first time that Pratt and Schwarzenegger have stepped out together in an official capacity as a couple—no mean feat, considering that Pratt has starred in at least three films that have debuted since they started dating last spring.
Plans for the Pratt/Schwarzenegger nuptials appear to be in full swing.
"I mean, I feel like we're all really involved in wedding planning," Schwarzenegger told Entertainment Tonight in early March. "I think that, you know, for me my family is very involved. I'm very involved, [Chris is] very involved so it's a great combination of everything and just a really exciting and fun [time]."
A source told People that the wedding won't be a Hollywood glam-fest either. “Chris and Katherine’s wedding will be a very intimate affair with just their closest loved ones,” the source said. “They don’t want it to be a circus. The focus will be their commitment to each other, and God will play a very large role on their big day.
Though they haven't announced an official date yet, at the premiere for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part in early February, Pratt told Us Weekly that the couple was planning on a "fall, winter kind of thing." Considering how quickly the couple's relationship has moved thus far, that probably places the wedding date somewhere in the latter half of 2019 or early 2020.
"Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!" he wrote, on a post of them together on January 14, which showed off her new engagement ring.
Schwarzenegger later shared the photo to her Instagram, writing "My sweet love. Wouldn’t want to live this life with anyone but you."
While their relationship has been far from secret in recent months, neither of the celebrities had made public statements about their romance until December 13, 2018 when Pratt sent out a sweet birthday message for Schwarzenegger on his Instagram.
"Happy Birthday Chief! Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care," he wrote in the caption to a photo collage of Schwarzenegger smiling and laughing as well as two photos of the couple together—one in sheet masks printed with animal faces, and one of Pratt kissing a grinning Schwarzenegger on the cheek.
The couple were later spotted lounging by a pool together on vacation in Cabo San Lucas on New Year's Eve, People reported.
HOW THEY MET
Turns out, the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star owes his first meet-up with the daughter of actor/politician Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist/philanthropist Maria Shriver to Shiver herself, who reportedly played matchmaker for the couple. “Maria helped set them up,” a source told People. Maria and Chris evidently knew one another through mutual friends, which inspired her to put him in touch with Katherine.
Though they were initially spotted together in public on Father's Day 2018, it apparently wasn't their first date. According to E! News, 39-year-old Chris and 29-year-old Katherine had gone out multiple times prior to their June 17 date, and had been "talking consistently" for about "two months or so."
"[Chris] was taking things slow with Katherine at first, but overall, he is not seeing anybody else and considers what he has with Katherine as exclusive," an insider told E! News. "He's not afraid to show his affection for her in public. Chris is doing things differently by not putting too much pressure on anything, but they are very happy so far."
Even when the relationship may be fresh, Pratt and Schwarzenegger were spending plenty of time together.
Both are spiritually-minded (Katherine was raised Catholic while Pratt is a vocal christian and regularly attends the Zoe Church in Los Angeles) and were spotted several times attending services together. On one such occasion in July of 2018, they brought along Jack, Chris's five year old son with ex-wife, actress Anna Faris, buying him ice cream and sharing a sweet public kiss. “They are spending every day together and Katherine has met Jack several times,” a source told People early in their relationship. “They seem to be getting more serious. Family is very important to both of them, as well as their spirituality. She’s very, very sweet and maternal and great with his son.”
Another source close to the couple agreed, adding “It’s only been a couple of months, but they’re both serious about the relationship and hopeful for the future. Chris doesn’t just date to date, and neither does Katherine. She’s very excited.”
MEETING THE FAMILY
Another sign of how seriously the couple are taking their relationship is the fact that they started getting close with one another's family within months of their first date. Already a friend of Maria's, Chris got to meet some more of Katherine's family on August 5 when the couple had dinner at Maria's home with Katherine's brother, Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Just a few weeks later, at the beginning of September, the duo visited Round Pond Estate winery in Napa with Chris's brother Cully and some friends before attending the a gala benefiting the christian children's charity, the Leaven.
"Maria is very excited for Katherine. Everyone has their fingers crossed that this is going to work out long term. They think Chris is an amazing guy and a great catch," a source told E!. "They are really perfect together and have similar goals and values. They have gotten serious quickly."
The family feelings continued into the fall when the couple was spotted trick-or-treating with Chris's son, Jack, his ex-wife, Anna, and and her boyfriend, Michael Barrett. In mid-November they also grabbed a bite at FIG restaurant in Santa Monica with Katherine's father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his girlfriend, Heather Milligan.
For Thanksgiving 2018, the duo spent their first holiday together, hanging out with Katherine's mother and brothers on Thanksgiving morning and watching her brothers play football, according to People. “You can tell Chris knows Katherine’s family really well,” the insider told the publication. “Chris always seems very comfortable around her family. It’s like he is part of the family.”
THEIR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
Pratt and Schwarzenegger on a night out in London in January 2019.
In his first interview since the couple went public with their engagement Pratt talked to ET in late January 2019 about his hopes for the future with Schwarzenegger, especially when it comes to family. "The future?" he said. "Oh. Lots of kids."
"Maybe less time spent working, more time spent enjoying life," Pratt added. "I always want to be that guy that works to live, not lives to work. I think [I want to spend] just a lot of time at the farm and a lot of time catching a lot of fish and seeing lots of sunsets."
Though the couple only started dating in the spring of 2018, they're obviously taking their future together seriously. In the same week they announced their engagement, the couple also reportedly moved in together in a house in west Los Angeles, close to where Pratt's ex-wife Anna Faris lives with their 6-year-old son, Jack.
Though it's not clear exactly when the move took place, Pratt shared a sponsored post on his Instagram on January 11 including the caption, "I love moving!!" leading to speculation that the couple may have moved in together on that day. If that is the case, then Pratt's Instagram enjoyed an eventful few days of breaking news—the very next post was the announcement of his engagement to Schwarzenegger.
