Dame Joan Collins has revealed the shocking thing Dynasty producers told her when she asked for a raise to fight for equal pay.

The legendary actress, who played the iconic Alexis Carrington on the super rich soap from 1981 to 1989, appeared on Lorraine this morning (September 15) and was asked about the gender pay gap.

During the interview, Joan revealed that she did ask for a raise during her work in Dynasty, but producers rebuffed her because her on-screen male equivalent "had to earn more than her."

"Yes I did [try to tackle the gender pay gap]," she said. "Not that it did a lot of good. After I'd been on Dynasty for two or three years, and I was on the cover of every magazine and I was quite popular, I asked for a raise and it was totally dismissed out of hand and [they] said, 'You can't have a raise, the guy who plays Blake, John Forsythe, he has to get more than you, a lot more'.

"I could never find out more, I found out towards the end. The last series they finally gave me a raise. I became a very high [paid] actress but they only put me in eight out of the 12 episodes so I lost money – and he still got $5,000 a week more than I did. I tried! I tried, but now people like Jennifer Lawrence and other young actresses are standing up for it."
