How Princess Diana Inspired 'Wonder Woman'

It's no coincidence the two royals share the same name.

Gal Gadot's performance in Wonder Woman, and the film's disruption of the macho-male ethos that seems to permeate the superhero genre, has inspired more than one grown woman to shed a tear mid-screening. (I say that from personal experience.)

But as turns out, Gadot's take on the Amazon princess was inspired by another royal named Diana—the Princess of Wales.

Last year at Comic Con, Gadot revealed that she watched a documentary on Princess Diana shortly before filming and kept the late royal, and her philanthropic efforts, in mind during her performance on-screen.

"Wonder Woman has the strength of a goddess and the heart of a human," Gadot said.

"She [Princess Diana] said she leads from her heart and not from her head. And I think the same is true of our Diana."

Proving yet again, that not all hero(ines) wear capes.
