Manila woke up to more rain and what netizens are calling the “best news ever:” the arrival of world-famous restaurant chain Shake Shack in the Philippines in early 2019.
What started as a hot dog stand in New York City’s Madison Park, the first full-fledged Shake Shack kiosk was opened in 2004. Since then, it has become the gold standard of fast, convenient, and great tasting good old American burgers, fries, hot dogs, and frozen custard.
The public announcement of the Manila opening was made on the Shake Shack Instagram account early Wednesday morning. Within minutes, the news took over social media.
"Mabuhay, Manila! Pack the jeepney, we’re officially headed to the Philippines! We’ll be bringin’ the goods to the Pearl of the Orient in Spring, 2019. Let the countdown begin!" the brand stated.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce the partnership between Shake Shack Inc. and the SSI Group,” says SSI Group President Anton Huang. “This is a testament of our company’s vision of enhancing lives and providing only the best for the ever-evolving Filipino consumer. Celebrating our 30th anniversary this year makes the partnership with this well-loved global brand even more meaningful to us. Staying true to Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good, we, at the SSI Group, are committed to continuously enrich the lives of our customers by offering the most rewarding curated lifestyle experiences. With the arrival of Shake Shack in the Philippines, we are excited to be amongst the first in Asia that will be home to the renowned American casual restaurant chain.”
Shake Shack's expansion began through New York in early 2010, and in July of the same year, it opened its first location outside the state in Miami’s South Beach enclave. Since it’s public filing in early 2015, the company has been rapidly expanding around the world. In Asia, Shake Shack now has branches in Seoul, Tokyo, and most recently Hong Kong, that opened earlier this year.
