Chateau Siran’s Edouard Miailhe has been elected president of Margaux Wine Syndicate, a group of local chateau owners and shippers in the region,

Chateau Siran is an old family property in Margaux, having been in the hands of the Miailhes for over 150 years. The family bought the property from the post-impressionist painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s ancestors, and today, the family’s history in Margaux is considered one of the most stellar Bordeaux dynasties.

The Miailhe family has strong ties to the Philippines, starting with the birth of one great-grandmother in Manila. Through the years, they’ve established themselves locally in trading and real estate in places like Binondo, Santa Ana, and Escolta. As such, Miailhe considers Chateau Siran a Filipino winery-he flies the Philippine flag next to the French one in front of the gates of the 17th-century property.

Aside from Chateau Siran and Margaux, Miailhe is currently the president of BM Property Services and Terra Nostra Realty.

In 2015, he was appointed by the Philippine Embassy in Paris as the Philippine honorary consul to Bordeaux, with jurisdiction over Aquitaine with five Departments (Dorgdogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot et Garonne, Pyrenees-Atlantiques), Poitou-Charentes with four Departments (Charente, Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sevres) and LIMOUSIN with two (out of three) of its Departments (Corrèze, Haute-Vienne).

Miailhe succeeds Gonzague Lurton. In a translated statement from Sud Ouest, Lurton says “After twenty years at the head of the Margaux Wine Syndicate, I thought it was time to move on.”

During Lurton’s time as the head of Margaux, he introduced organic farming as well as the conversion of vineyards to biodynamic practices beginning in 2009.
