Making healthy choices can be difficult when you're at the bar, with friends, or out to dinner—but you don't have to sacrifice a delicious drink just because you're trying to cut calories.

Registered dietitian Kelly Hogan suggests alternating your drinks with water, which helps to limit how many drinks you'll have, and also be sure to avoid sugary mixers or juices. "Go for a simple spirit with club soda, a splash of fruit juice or squeeze of lime," she says, adding, "herbs like mint and basil can add flavor with no sugar nor calories."

And alcohols of a lower proof are also lower in calories: A shot of 80 proof vodka (Grey Goose or Smirnoff) has about 96 calories, whereas a shot of 100 proof vodka is saddled with about 123 calories.

1. The Freshest Margarita


Ingredients:
2 Parts Milagro Silver (1 1/2 oz)
¾ Part Agave Nectar (1/2 oz)
1 Part Fresh Lime Juice

Directions:
Pour all ingredients into a Boston shaker. Shake and strain over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.

2. Meyer Lemon & Ginger Mule


Ingredients:
1 oz vodka (80 proof)
¾ oz OM Meyer Lemon & Ginger Liqueur
½ oz lime juice
Ginger beer

Directions:
Pour all ingredients into an ice-filled copper mug. Garnish with candied ginger on a cocktail pick.

3. Coconut & Lychee Tropical Sidecar

Ingredients:
1 ½ ounces cognac (80 proof)
¾ ounce OM Coconut & Lychee liqueur
¾ ounce lemon juice
Lychee for garnish.

Directions:
Rim the outside ¼ inch of a cocktail glass with sugar. Set aside. Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into sugar-crusted glass. Serve with lychee on a cocktail pick.

4. Lemon Spritz

Ingredients:
1½ oz. vodka
½ oz lemon juice
Soda
Lemon slice

Directions:
Add your vodka and lemon juice with ice to your shaker. Shake. Pour over ice. Top with ice. Garnish with lemon.

5. It's About Thyme


Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Angel's Envy Port finished Bourbon
1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/2 oz Honey syrup
1 Dash Absinthe
6-8 Concord Grapes (frozen)
1 Thyme sprig
Soda water

Pour a splash of soda water over ice in a Collins glass. Add all ingredients, minus soda water, into a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into glass and then add soda water. Garnish with frozen grapes.

2 oz Scotch
Soda Water

Directions:

8. Apricot Whisky Sour


Ingredients:
2 oz whisky
1 oz apricot preserves
½ oz lemon juice
Apricot slices

Directions:
Combine the preserves, whisky and lemon juice in a shaker with ice. Shake. Pour cocktail over ice. Garnish with apricot slice.

9. Pomegranate Cosmopolitan


Ingredients:
1 oz. orange liqueur
1 oz. pomegranate vodka
1 lime

Directions:
Combine all in a shaker filled with ice. Shake thoroughly. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lime or pomegranate seeds.

10. No Frills Mint Julep– Without The Simple Syrup


Ingredients:
1 bunch of fresh mint
1 teaspoons powdered sugar (less calories than simple syrup)
Crushed ice
1 1/2 oz bourbon
1 tablespoon water

Directions:
Shred mint and place with 1 tsp powdered sugar in bottom of glass. Muddle together. Add crushed ice generously, followed by bourbon, and water. Stir. Garnish with mint.

Ingredients:
3 oz. Prosecco
2 oz. Aperol
Splash of soda
Orange slice

Directions:

Ingredients:

1 handful mint leaves
1/2 lime
