Price per square meter: P249,863 – 450,000

Named after William Cameron Forbes, a governor-general in the Philippines, investment banker, and diplomat, Forbes Park is the country’s first gated subdivision and a result of an urban plan that began as far back in the 1800s. It was established and developed by the Roxas-Zobel-Ayala clan. It houses the exclusive Manila Polo Club and the Manila Golf and Country Club, as well as Santuario de San Antonio, a nineteenth-century church.

Trees over half a centuries-old surround the community, and inside are grand mansions with beautifully landscaped gardens. The neighborhood also takes pride in the privacy, exclusivity, and top-notch security. As the mix of residents is made up of businessmen, celebrities, expats, and other wealthy and affluent names, Forbes Park is also often called the ‘Beverly Hills of Manila’.

Neighborhood Hangouts: The San Antonio Plaza has everything, from dining destinations to quick stops for grocery essentials and daily needs. There’s a National Bookstore, a Mercury Drug, a Bank of the Philippine Islands, and a Rustan’s Supermarket. Indulge in a pampering session at Tinette’s Salon, or have a rewarding dessert at Santis Delicatessen, Gourmet Corner, or at Purple Oven. Long-established restaurants include Maple, an all-day breakfast restaurant by the Pancake House Group; La Nuova Pasteleria, an Italian cuisine dining spot since 1978; and Isogi, which serves Japanese cuisine and is located right in front of the church.

Also called 'Dasma,' this private, gated village was established in 1965, and has since become the residence of choice for prominent businessmen, politicians, celebrities, and diplomats. Within the village are foreign embassies, and the private Catholic school, Colegio de San Agustin. Manila’s most elite international schools are also located nearby.

The Spanish colonial and ultra-modern style homes are surrounded by two vast parks, the Mahogany Park and the enclosed Campanilla Park, where residents host bazaars, parties, and similar events. It has its own gym, and basketball, badminton, and tennis courts. The neighborhood is best known for its undemanding vibe and generous spaces for sports and recreation.

Neighborhood Hangouts: Right outside the village are top-tier restaurants, most notable ones being Txanton, the country’s first-ever jamoneria with a bodega that keeps fine French and Spanish wines; and M Dining + Bar M, with palatable dishes prepared by renowned chef Tom Bascon himself.

Home to Manila’s most affluent families and expatriates, Urdaneta remains one of the smallest, exclusive, and private neighborhoods in the city. Inside are elegant bungalows and multi-story dwellings, amid indoor and outdoor basketball courts and a multi-purpose clubhouse. 

Neighborhood Hangouts: Most notable are the Tin-Aw Art Gallery for art enthusiasts, and Nikko’s Baking Studio, which is a bakeshop, a culinary school, and a resto-café all rolled into one. Easily accessible are The Peninsula Manila and Discovery Primea, each with their own repertoire of dining destinations to offer. The village is also nearby the shopping malls Glorietta, Greenbelt, Shangri-La Makati, and Rustan’s supermarket and department store.

Named ‘Cleanest and Greenest Barangay in Makati’ for eight times in a row, it’s no wonder Bel-Air was soon inducted into the Makati Clean and Green Hall of Fame in 2005. Naturally, it has become the residence of choice of Manila’s most discerning. While the village was originally developed for pilots of Philippine Airlines, its dwellers today are an interesting mix of artists, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives.

In addition to its orderly surroundings, the village is also well-lauded for its community programs that effectively foster good relationships among its residents. Bel-Air is also popular for the ‘Pasinaya,’ an annual thanksgiving event that dates back to 1993. Must-visit on Jupiter Street are the authentic Korean restaurants. Likewise, the restaurant scene in Poblacion shouldn’t be missed. Barangay San Lorenzo, fondly called ‘SanLo,’ is one of Manila’s first gated neighborhoods, established in the year 1954. The village is popularly known as the home of exclusive all-girls school Assumption College. Its amenities include a swimming pool, clubhouse, playground, and function rooms, among others.

Neighborhood Hangouts: There’s always a reason to eat out at SanLo as the village holds some of the best bakeries/ cafes and dining spots, popular to both working professionals and village residents. One of the most exclusive subdivisions in Quezon City, Corinthian Gardens boast a bevy of amenities including pools, tennis and badminton courts, a football field, a playground and park, four function rooms, and a clubhouse. One of the most private, expensive, and largest subdivisions in Manila, Ayala Alabang is a well-known residential area that was developed back in the 1970s. Homes inside the village are of contemporary design, with well-thought-of interiors, lush gardens, and vast swimming areas. It is home to many local celebrities and prominent businessmen.

Among its amenities are multiple covered courts; the Cuenca park, to play soccer or bike around in; and the community’s own resources of fire trucks, ambulances, and transport network. Most popular is the Alabang Country Club, which is recognized for its upscale facilities and eighteen-hole golf course.

Village-held events are regular occurrences in the neighborhood, and so are house parties. The most well-known event is the St. James the Great Christmas Bazaar, which is considered the grandest of its kind in the South of Makati.

Neighborhood Hangouts: Alabang Town Center and Commerce Center are conveniently right outside the village, where residents can easily access the supermarket for their daily needs, the gym for a quick workout, and the cinemas. There’s also Molito, a commercial building lined with the hippest dining hubs, including Ramen Yukoshen and The Black Pig; and The South District, the newest food hall in Alabang.

Consisting of six villages, Valle Verde is home to some of the country’s top celebrities, athletes, and businessmen. One of Quezon City’s most well-known gated communities, White Plains is the residence of choice of many celebrities, politicians, and prominent personalities.
