The Secret to Better Sleep Lies in What You Put in Your Bedroom

A good night’s sleep is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted. Getting the rest we need should be everyone’s priority.

Good sleeping habits have been proven to be essential to our physical, emotional, and mental health, while insufficient sleep, along with other poor lifestyle choices, has been associated with a number of illnesses and health risks such as obesity, depression, memory loss, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other cardiovascular diseases.

The atmosphere you create in the bedroom contributes directly to the evening of adequate rest and relaxation that you need to face the next day. Experts have suggested that the absence of gadgets, such as laptops, tablets, and phones, is critical due to the blue light they emit and its negative effect on our circadian rhythm. Some studies even suggest that television screens can be equally disruptive and recommend that they be kept hidden in a cabinet when it is time to turn off the lights.

Much of the quality of your sleep depends on your mattress. While firmness and cushioning add to comfort, the age of your mattress matters, too. Trade in your mattress after every five to 10 years.

When decorating, there are several important factors to consider to get you your well-deserved Zs—from the color of the walls to the suitable amount of available light, and even the proper temperature and scent. It goes without saying that choosing the right furniture and accessories, such as beds, mattresses, pillows, and blankets, is crucial to creating an ideal sleeping environment.
