Christofle's Flatware Set Enhances Your Impromptu Dinner Parties

The collection is encased in an egg-shaped container that doubles as a decorative piece.

“A perfect table setting reflects your taste. It really depends on your mood,” says Valerie Debray-Louis Cobb, Asia Pacific managing director of Christofle, the French silverware brand, “which is why we called [the collection] MOOD.”

All 24 pieces of fine flatware are encased in a compact, ovoid-shaped decorative piece—a gigantic futuristic egg set in steel—which the Christofle studio came up with in an effort to make the design evolve to suit the modern world, which “is one where you have to be ready for any occasion,” says Cobb. The silver-plated cutlery services six, a comfortable number for a quiet dinner at home. Cobb says the Christofle brand is there because every meal becomes a moment in your life. We consider every moment, whether it’s having breakfast, lunch, or dinner, very important to us,” which is why the way you dress your table matters.

Once a night of entertaining is done, you simply stow away the cutlery in its elliptical home, where it transforms into an elegant work of art, ready to be propped into any living area.

Cobb envisions the avant-garde collection for three very different occasions.

1. A picnic

“In England, MOOD is considered a very trendy picnic set.”

With its shape and portable size, it’s easy to transport from one patch of green to another. The stainless steel container protects the flatware from the elements.

2. An impromptu tête-à-tête

“You set it on a table for two to six. It could be informal dinners when friends or family arrive at your home unannounced. You could simply have food delivered and have dinner,” Cobb suggests.

The situation suits the modern lifestyle, where unexpected get-togethers are common and you should always be prepared to entertain.

3. A formal dinner

For formal dinners, you can use the complete setting atop a pressed tablecloth with a floral centerpiece.

Cobb suggests playing with floral arrangements and colored glasses. She personally loves mixing pieces from MOOD with past collections, like Marcel Wanders’ Jardin d’Eden, since the contrasting designs are visually appealing. For Cobb, it isn’t a matter of formality at all times. Having fun with your table is the most important part.

Christofle is available at Rustan's Makati, 813.3739.
