If you’re spending the long holiday weekend in the city, you must catch at least one of these lovely shows on their last weekend. And if you can make it to all three, even better.

Cinderella

Adults and children of all ages are enchanted by Lisa Macuja’s Cinderella. The Ballet Manila founder choreographed it in 2016, her first-full length ballet. Many children in the audience arrive in tutus and ballet shoes and it is endearing to hear them giggle and applaud as Cinderella magically transforms into a princess before our very eyes and heads off to the ball in her pumpkin carriage. Even more enthralling is when Prince Charming heads into the audience, glass slipper in hand, saying hello to the wide-eyed little princesses in their seats.

At the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex. December 1 at 6 p.m., and December 2 at 3 p.m.

Mula Sa Buwan

My film scriptwriting classmate Nicco Manalo stars as Cyrano in this adaption co-written by director Pat Valero and William Manzano. Set in Manila in the 1940s, Manalo is brilliant as the tragic hero and leader of the pack, whose love for his childhood friend Roxane (Gab Pangilinan) remains unrequited throughout the decades. Manalo’s ebullience, timing, and comic wit has won over the hearts of many audiences all through the years.

At the Hyundai Hall, Arete, Ateneo de Manila University. December 1 at 3 p.m. One last show starring Boo Gabunada as Cyrano has been added at 7:30 p.m.

Waitress

Waitress, the charming musical, with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles and book by Jessie Nelson, is based on the film by Adrienne Shelly. The Atlantis Theatrical production, the show’s international debut, is helmed by our favorite director Bobby Garcia and brought to life by a powerhouse cast that includes Joanna Ampil, who flew back from the West End for the role, belter par excellence Bituin Escalante, and Nino Alejandro.
