It Snowed in the Sahara Desert for the First Time in Decades
The only other time this happened was in 1979.

Sometimes, when it's blistering outside, people like to say "it's hotter than the Sahara Desert" — a.k.a. one of the driest and warmest regions in the entire world. So we always assumed these red peaks of sand have never experienced snow — and never will. Not so. People in the small town of Ain Sefra, Algeria woke up to a dusting of white this week for the first time since the February of 1979.

Photographer Karim Bouchetata was lucky enough to catch the phenomenon before the snow melted away. "Everyone was stunned to see snow falling in the dessert," he told Bored Panda. "It is such a rare occurrence. It looked amazing as the snow settled on the sand and made a great set of photos. The snow stayed for about a day and has now melted away." This is only the second time this region has seen snow, but it's so beautiful, we hope it's not the last.
