In an exciting opening to the 5th edition of Art Fair Philippines, the nation's premier art event, many of the regional art scene’s biggest names turned up at the main event at The Link in Makati. The guests were given the privilege of first dibs at the vast collection of modern and contemporary art that 46 galleries, both local and international, had to offer.

Welcoming guests to the VIP opening were Trickie Lopa, Lisa Periquet, and Dindin Araneta, the brilliant trio behind the event.

Hundreds of works were dispersed among three floors of the link, plus the roofdeck, which in the coming three days will feature Art Fair PH Talks and Tours, created in partnership with the Ateneo Art Gallery and the Museum Foundation of the Philippines. In one corner, we saw T&C cover girl Jeona Zoleta, with an eye-catching neon pink display of pop culture references, showering visitors of her exhibit with confetti. On another floor, a musical graffiti wall by WSK captivated passersby with loud, ethnic noise blasting from speakers when flesh made contact with the wall of metal.

Aside from the vast maze of amazing art pieces and the experience of interacting with artists, the art talks will provide a wonderful avenue for expanding the visitors’ knowledge of art in general. With three talks a day, featured speakers at Art Fair PH Talks include Canadian writer and sociologist of culture Dr. Sarah Thornton, author of several art world bestsellers such as Seven Days in the Art World and 33 Artists in 3 Acts. Ambeth Ocampo, Filipino historian, academic, and journalist, will talk about the works by significant modern artist Arturo Luz, Philippine National Artist for the Visual Arts that he recently curated for a show at the Ateneo Art Gallery.

Art Fair Philippines runs from February 16 to 19, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Link, Parkway Drive, Ayala Center, Makati.
